Round 5 of the series on sunday at Slade Valley, Dublin. From memory - having raced the venue in 2011 - Nice steady climbs with rooty, technical singletrack and the longest bombhole feature ever! Anyone else? no? Just me again?

BVK race report:
So that was Savage. It was so hot I thought the rubber on my wheels was going to melt. Gridded on the front row, along with some strong men who haven't travelled as much around as me. For some reason the guy did a count down! Grimley would have had a heart attack at the thought!!
Was undecided as to the race plan or where to make up time and still hadn't decided when we went so I decided to try and go from the off. Leading, I thought, nobody up with me as I did my best to power away up the long fireroad climb in the pre race loop. Though a quick glance behind showed there were 5 men all breathing down my neck only a bike length or two off me, and by the top into the first section of trail I had slipped to 6th. The pace was manic but I decided to try and settle in as it was a long lap and the heat was definitely going to do for them? Yea? Then I fell off! But back on quickly and away again.
Well It certainly wasnt doing for them on lap 1 as I desperately tried to bridge back across, but it wasn't until Lap 2 where I finally made contact with the guy in 5th. I was starting to feel ok though so the confidence grew a little. Especially as I could now see all of them and judge the distance.
Lap 2 and 3 was spent clawing my way up, got into 3rd place just at the start of lap 3 quickly followed by a move into 2nd; and set off in pursuit of lead man Sean Feeney. Got closer to him towards the middle of lap 3 on a long draggy fireroad. Decided attacking straight away was the best way to go and had to ride very hard, well outside my comfort zone as he was glued to my wheel until the 4th lap started when I started to distance him a little. No major incidents on lap 4 - just rode it as hard and safe as I could and managed to maintain the lead in 1st place.
Hardest race of the year so far and to come away with the win was great. Even got to cross the line with the big brother racing in the S3 race ;D
Thanks to Craig McCarthy (XMTB) for being my bottle man, especially on a day like that.
Last round is at G-Ride in Wicklow in 2 weeks time. Crunch race. Everything will be decided in the overalls on the last day.
Well done to Nathan Sturrock for heading down and racing, helping to bear the heavy weight of the DCC Jersey on the road ;-)

For some reason the guy did a count down! Grimley would have had a heart attack at the thought!! ;D Brilliant! You can't get the staff sometimes. Fantastic report and result Barry. You're some pup. A real insight into racing and the mind of a racer. Well done. I'll be down at the G-ride to lend some support (and ensure no-one does a count down). I had a great day with the Carn Wheelers lads in Garvagh (that'll be some course!! - lots of big smile sweeping sections) and then I went to join the Caldwell Cycles guys in Gortin (course will be tough, some nasty climbs but good. No work will be done on the course until the final week - lots of work for the guys to do but they are keen and the set up looks grand.) I then nipped over to Davagh for a go on the new trails. I set off on the red route, a short fun section then LOTS AND LOTS of boring fireroad tarmac climbing and then...... heaven. What a great run back down. Roller coaster stuff at times. Great job

Well done Barry. Proud of you! I know the rest of the mtb section have sacrificed their season to focus on the preparation of our elite rider but this makes it worthwhile. When do you require the next club league night?
