Majorca is 1 1/2 weeks away.
For those of you who are first timers here is I hope some useful information:-
* Log on to your Easyjet flight and submit your ID info for travelling to Spain - you MUST do this ahead of the flight (check Easyjet).
* While on Easyjet.com consider online check in and print boarding passes
* If you haven't booked the airport transfer with Gary B do so now
* It will be around midnight when we arrive at the hotel. They may leave out cold meats, cheeses, bread etc but I am not sure so consider food needs to tide you over til morning.
* The bikes will be stored in the basement garage and there are wall hooks and a chain on each. Bring a small padlock to lock the chain around your bike
* Bring two tubes and levers and a pump (No need if hiring). Bring a multi tool
* Bring crocs or trainers to walk from your room to and from the garage carrying your cycling shoes (tiled floors)
* Bring at least 3 pairs of shorts and a clothes line to string up across the room to dry them after washing. Bring travel wash
* Bring a light raincoat and a Gilet
* Bring suncream
*Bring energy drink in powder form and gels
* Bring 2 water bottles
* Breakfast and dinner are buffet style and start at 0700 and 1800 from memory. Try to arrive no later than 1 1/4hrs after starting time to get the best choices
* Tea/coffee cups are small consider bringing a mug
* If you think you might join a B Group (if one forms) bring a map/Garmin
* The rides will leave each morning at 10.00am if your the first one down to the garage take the key from reception. If your the last one down leave the key back before going out
* The first morning ride we will aim to leave at 11.00am
* We will always be back at approx. 4.00pm
* We will always have a lunch stop
* First day will be 50miles ish flat/undulating
* Consecutive days can be decided on the evening before.
* 4-6/7pm is showering and rest time before dinner
* After dinner beat the Germans to the soft seats in the bar (big red sofas/chairs on the left as you enter the bar). This will become Dromara Base Camp for the evening.
The routes:-
*You will want to ride the main climbs of Soller (8km switchbacks), Puig Major (14km longer straight sections) and Sa Calobra (12km switchbacks down to a dead end and 12km back out).
* Soller and Puig really have to be ridden together
* Sa Calobra could be done via the town of Selve
* We can alternate with flatter days
* Don't worry you will get up these fine the gradients are less steep and more constant than at home, you will find one gear that suits and stay in this for most of the climb.
* Climb at your own pace we will stop for everyone at the summits before heading on.
* We will all re-group at the bottom of the descents DO NOT cross the white line on the way down better to go slower into a blind bend and come out quicker
* The climbs/descents are the only times we will be spread out we will ride as a tight group at all other times
* Any ride that takes in the climbs will be about 70ish miles by the time we get to the mountains and back to Can Picafort
* Don't be worried reading this you will find it easier than you think, the road surfaces are very fast and the climbs are fine at your own pace and in the relative heat compared to home
* The climbs are the only time there will be splits we will stay together at all other times.
Above are suggestions we will always work on a consensus but the rides in the mountains can't be made any shorter as we are on the east coast and they are in the west.
Cheers
