Had a great day at the Lisburn sprint triathlon. 180 registered. Friendly bunch all willing to share advice and provide help. In the pool just after 9 am. 30 lengths. 3 others in my lane. No front crawl for me, just breaststroke. Felt strong. Jump out, grap shoes, 200m run to bikes. Rush to get kit on, run out the gate jump on the bike. 2 laps of the circuit = 20 km/
Many thanks to John McG for the lend of his TT bike. Flying machine. It was, not me!!! Realised the seat was too low quite quickly despite my trial run on Wednesday.
Roads were a bit damp but not bad and no rain. Passed lots of riders on the road. Only passed by one, John H from North Down. Back into the car park, jump off the bike, quick change of shoes and away for the 5 km run around the football pitches. Flat grass surface, felt very comfortable here, 1 km per lap. Seen Jenny M giving out water.
Steady 4 laps and then lifted my pace for the 5th one. Great support from spectators. Finished 1 hour 17m 07 seconds. At that point they said I was second. Felt good for the short time my name kept getting read out as second but it quickly went to third and I left before hearing how far down it was going to go. I was in the first wave of swimmers, the slowest ones!! The faster competitors were all coming in behind me. I did hit my target of DCL. ("Don't come last!!). There was a big range of ages and fitness levels with lots of people doing a triathlon for the first time. Highly recommended. I'll look for another one of this type and have another go.
