I am about to invest in a turbo trainer as I just can't get out on my bike as often as I need to. Getting fed up being passed on the mtb tt by guys a lot fitter.... So my question is, are they any good?

Good is such a subjective word Peter...
When you are time constrained and you have the will to put it to good use, then yes I would say they are very good. Lets get one thing straight though, they are not fun. How could they be? But 1 hour on a turbo a couple of times a week with an actual plan (rather than just spinning aimlessly for 60 minutes) will reap you great rewards.
You'll want a turbo tyre as well.
And a fairly large indoor fan.

Thanks Barry. I take it by a turbo tyre you mean a road/slick?

An old slick will do, but you will square it off eventually as it will wear a lot quicker than a dedicated turbo tyre.
