Great first night, good turnout, course records and PBs galore!!! This is bound to improve our xc racing. Looking a timekeeper for next Friday could not stand the midges at the start/finish. Good to see some new faces. Up she flew!!

It will hugely benefit XC racing Brian. I was intending to go out for a training spin in the morning on the road, but I can assure you I won't be going anywhere after tonights session!

Yes well done to those who turned up and made this a success. The top guys really were flying round the course! A great incentive to those looking a route into XC racing or those looking to improve. The course is excellent, a bit of everything to expect in UXC/NPS series. This will really benefit the club and maybe encourage more onto their MTBs or see what all the fuss about mounatin biking is about... Anyhow, everyone knows MTB is way better than roadie stuff any day! Eh Paul? BK??? ;D

Barry, you cant call 37 mins a good workout, thats just a bit more than a warm up, so no excuses for taking Saturday off. On the other hand, I did a good hour, so I'm having a lazy day today :-) Great course for those with good technical skills, thanks to all the guys that worked so hard to make it all come together. I hope to make good use of it and just maybe I can improve enough to get around on my bike, rather than running half of it !!!

John, bryce is the man who falls off more than anyone I know and he is getting uncomfortably close and fast now, I'm sure he wouldn't charge much for some lessons on whatever he has been up to this last while!
I'm pretty certain he played a joker last night so he wouldn't be handicapped too much for the next one. Sly dog that one. In fact, 60 minutes? Which means if it works like a Thursday night tt... There's no point any of us trying for when you stop riding a child's bike you'll be flying!

barry, believe it or not the child's bike i was riding is actually better than my own, so i might keep using it...but you are right about the handicaps, i reckon if i stop having to get off and on the bike ( about 30 times in that lap ) i could save about 10 mins, if that ever happens you will need to go around in 27 mins, so thats your new target...lol

I doubt it John... Everyone made a quick exit to get away from the midges... Maybe it'll still be there on Friday...

Don't worry Barry, handicap committee are on to him. Have been looking at S4 results, needs to be handicapped heavier than Shanksy and Gibson.

Dont wanna say anything negative here, but NO! I was on a rigid bike! Plus I was tired from TT the night before and commuting. Its a tough course as well. And Im only S4. Shanksy's a brute on a bike... He food shops at Thomsons on the York Road... Get HIM handicapped I think its Gibson whos playin the system...

All 3 of them are playing the system Brian!
I passed Bryce lighting up a ciggy at the top of the big hill, shanksy had stopped for 3 waffles and gibson rode the whole thing in the granny ring.

Martin explained "The system" to me on the climb up Slieve Croob one day on the MTBs... So you can imagine it was all explained in detail about the times, the averages and their application, it is by all accounts interesting IF a little bit complicated to be honest, well for me anyway...
"What we do is we look at your average times and apply...."
... He lost me after that. Im still none the wiser.

Sorry these took a while, busy day with Cycling Ireland. The man from the West got the all clear but suspicions have been arisen about Peter Ritchie. Name Nett time Handicap time Rank Points Peter Ritchie 24.56 22.59 1 50 John Shanks 24.57 23.55 2 45 Brian Wilson 23.53 25.03 3 40 Br Hetherington 23.50 25.24 4 35 Diane Wilson 27.22 27.19 5 34
Well done to all for braving the elements. Thanks to Martin for marking out the course and Barry Van for timekeeping.
Well done Bryce for the fastest time of the night and to Peter for the biggest improvement.
Barry I have given up on this table malarkey!!

I did say in a previous post that practice makes perfect...... Starting to get the hang of this me thinks. The warm up lap helped me a lot. It's a pity I can't make the race today or next week. That said though, well pleased with my results so far..
