I have volunteered along with my dad.
More details about this event.
"Aware have been nominated as one of five charities to benefit from this event and it is a huge platform for a small charity like ourselves. We estimate that one in four people in NI will experience depression, as well as being a factor in up to 75% of all suicides in NI. Currently 6 people take their own life each week – many more than in road traffic accidents. And assistance you can give us with this event would undoubtedly help us to save lives.
50 of the World’s top female cyclists will be participating in this event, including local woman (
our Mary!!), Wendy Houvenaghel. As well as cyclists in the Big Bike, we also need a team of marshals and other volunteers. Please consider volunteering a few hours of your time to help with this event!"
I ASKED KAROLYN A FEW QUESTIONS
Where do you need people and how many per point? (Varies. The route is 22 miles long and we need 180 volunteers and we have approx. half that. The Stewarding Plan is with H&S Manager and roles are being allocated at the training sessions)
What time slots will have to be covered on the Sunday? I understand the Big Ride is using the same course. What time do they go and how many marshals do they need? (7.30am at Stormont for final meeting at 8am before going to positions in advance of road closures at 8.30am. I’ve been advised approx. finish time for volunteers is 1.30pm. Big Bike family ride starts at 10.15am)
Which points are not covered (and therefore you need the most)? (after the training sessions end on Thursday we will have a better idea of what areas are uncovered. We are still matching roles/positions against volunteers on an ongoing basis).
Do they have to send an email or do you have an online register for volunteers? (It is helpful if they register online via this link Celtic Chrono time trials
www.volunteernow.co.uk/events/item/219/but at this stage if they email me with name, mobile and area they are willing to cover this would be a fantastic help. It’s advised vollies attend a training session (this Wed at 6pm and Thur at 12 noon) but training notes will be available by email in advance of Sunday for those who volunteer too close to the event to accommodate training in person).
