I got nominated as one of the few MTBers at the club AGM onto the club committee to represent the views of MTBers' and to help develop MTBing. I have a simple question directed at all club mtbers' young and old, male and female. What do you want to see from our club regarding MTBing?

I would love to see a few rounds of the club league MTB races!! And a few sunday runs out around tollymore, castlewellan etc, anywhere that involves off road and muck!

I don't know about having MTB in the regular club league. Most of the club league regulars won't have the bike or the inclination to participate?
There are many issues with running an official league... 1) What time of the year to run it? What day? There are issues with clashing with the road league 2) Interest. Do we have enough regular mountain bikers to maintain interest and competition for an actual league? 3) Land Access/Costs.
Personally, I think a possible route to explore is as Zak says, an organised ride out maybe once a month? There are plenty of great trails around, big loops, little compact loops... hill climbs and flat terrain.
What about as part of the group ride, incorporate a practice lap of a certain short loop so everyone is familiar with it - and if people feel the need - an hour could be set aside to allow a Time Trial lap.
Getting out together would give people the opportunity to sponge off experienced folk like Brian and Deek, and gleaning skills of young pups like Zak
And anyway, enough about old Codgers...
Surely kids MTBing should be an important consideration? But then you need certain qualifications (and a talent for teaching) for training kids?

I pretty much agree with Barry it would be good to have a regular club run out on the MTB's.
I'm not sure if there'd be enough interest in a MTB league in the club but perhaps a mini time trial league held 3 or 4 times a year maybe over the same course that way riders could aim to improve their times and see if they're improving their skills over the year.
Another option might be to run a club league within the Ulster XC series where riders compete in the UXC series and a scoring system is worked out where points are awarded according to their position in the race.
Something along the lines of 1st 25, 2nd 20, 3rd 15 down to 1 point for 10th and below, it wouldn't matter which section you are racing in and it would mean all levels of rider are racing others of a similar standard even if they're not in the same club.
The main downside with this is the cost to the riders to enter the UXC series/buy race licence. If anyone doesn't intend to enter these races I doubt they would be interested in entering just to be part of a club league.
I guess it would be best to start with something simple and let it evolve into whatever the most members want to do.

More organised MTB runs! MTB really is far more fun than road and you don't even need to worry about mudguards Things are looking up about the forest access, but if they all get this virus thing like moneyscalp has, we'll not be allowed in them anyway!

Moneyscalp has a virus??? Was it using norton or mcafee? I think it's a great idea to have an organised run for mtb's, anyone got one I could borrow?
