Another mild night. Just 5 of us out. Team The Losers (Alan, Dennis and Stewart), Kyle (first time) and me. The Christmas lights were being turned on so we agreed to meet at the old Coca Cola factory. Alan and Dennis went to the Civic Centre anyway and found it empty. They cycled down and met us. Kyle was there by car. Stewart and I arrived by bike. All set off at 7 with Alan having the bright idea to put Kyle on the front. Little did we realise that Kyle has been commuting to work regularly and therefore was zipping along. I was struggling to keep up. All gathered up at the P stop. A more reasonable pace down to the bridge. Crossed over and headed to Giant's Ring. A beautiful evening spin around the winding lanes heading towards the Ring itself. Passing one couple and their dog. At the far side of the Ring there were a few cars about. Some more walkers??
Up through Ronan's way dropping down to Minnowburn. Dennis was on the front and lead us to Belvoir. Up those tight climbs. Somewhere at the back we lost Stewart who had a crash off the trails. Dennis was nearby to ensure he got back on his bike afterwards. All gathered up again and headed to Vomit Ridge. Another slog up it. Some quick mechanical adjustments to bikes (mine and Stewarts) before we headed around the loop and then back to the car park. Heart rates were taken and Stewart won again!
Back down through the trees and then back to the path. Dennis and I lead the group back. After a brief stop Kyle took over at the front with me. A steady spin back to the Coca Cola factory. Kyle and Stewart exited here. I went on to the Civic Centre with Alan and Dennis. No sprints. We saw the beams of light in the distance where the town folk were enjoying the Christmas lights. The Civic Centre was indeed deserted.
Another great night out. Hope to do this again next Thursday (weather permitting).
