Just 3 of us out for the first towpath spin of the season tonight; Marty McAnulty, new member Stephen Nugent and myself. I don't think my mountain bike had turned a wheel since January, but a couple of puffs of air in the 29er tyres and it was ready to go. Stephen and Marty were both on their cross bikes. The rain held off, and although it was relatively mild for the time of year, it still felt a bit chilly as we set off along the towpath. We took the "traditional route" via the Giant's ring, Shawsbridge and Belvoir. A few of narrower paths around the Giant's Ring are a little overgrown compared to last year, and the tree felling in Belvoir has really transformed the look and feel of the area, but otherwise nothing has changed much since the last time we were out at the end of last winter. Marty was unlucky enough to get a puncture mid way round Belvoir, but he had a spare tube with him and got it sorted quickly. When we got back onto the towpath at Shawsbridge, Marty split, and Stephen and I headed straight back by the towpath, missing out Barnetts Demesne and Lady Dixon. A fairly gentle spin got us back to Lisburn for about 9.10pm. All in all a very enjoyable and not too taxing first spin out. Hope to see a few more out next week!!! Oh, and the wildlife count was 4 rabbits & a very big fox!
