Many thanks to the team of Ronnie,Chris,Davy , Nathan and me for a hard riding weekend.........didn't go exactly to plan aiming to win the first stage but we had to use up 3 riders to pull back the breaks on the Friday stage before we hit the climbs.....the 3 laps of Warrenpoint was flat out with 50 odd riders in a bunch all trying to go through a final corner that only had room for 1....and we got 4th ......stage 2 and 3 were hard and also today was flat out with 72 miles @ 24.8 average taking in the climbs of the 7 sisters , Horseshoe and Rathfriland twice......the boys all rode well unfortunately Nathan broke a spoke and had to retire......with GC too far away we aimed for a stage win to salvage something....... The break was away with some of the strongest riders of Gary Crory and Jake Gray in it .....the break going out to over 1 min at one stage.......Chris told me to sit in and wait and he went on the front .....lining out the bunch for mile after mile......at one stage the break was down to 20 sec but with Des Woods getting across to the break it was too much to do and it started creeping away again so it wasn't to be...... have to make a special mention about Davy Dixon.....first 3 day and only up to A3 and rode like a pro..........broke a wheel on yesterday's stage took him out of GC but he finished in the bunch today on the hardest stage of the weekend .....an epic ride from our new member of the race team and just a glimpse of what the boys can do when the push themselves ?
✌And also before I forget the most important member of the team Nathans dad Michael Mullen ..........drove the team car all weekend ..........team mechanic , Number Pinner, feed station.....this man does it all ....many thanks
also big thanks for all the Dcc members that were on the road to give us a bit of support it was much appreciated .........
My best memory of the weekend is a cyclist that we met as the bunch was at full attack in the crosswinds ...... he was cycling the opposite way to us.........knees sticking out doing a very leisurely pace with a big grin on his face, and all I could think was " that looks like fun"
