Flatfields - Club League Round 5

Thursday Night will be the second Road Race of the club league and the good news is that here are league points for this one.

We have been given permission to park at the Elim Church on the Moira Road. (Hope this is correct)

This is of great benefit to the club and we should all ensure that we do not jeopardize this arrangement by ensuring that we respect the site especially with regard to other users and ensuring that we remove all of our litter.

This is where the race will start from.

Oh and what's Mullen doing in Group 4? Surely he can't have hit the drink that hard??

A beautiful evening at the Flatfields course. Bright sunshine on clear blue skies Such a contrast to last year when it was torrential rain all evening.
Many thanks to the Pastor at Elim Church for allowing us to park there and to run the race from the entrance to the church.
Just 4 groups out tonight but a good turn out.
Many thanks to the huge number of volunteers who have to come forward to run our road races and to keep the riders safe. Sadly there were a few motorists who used the opportunity to see volunteers on the road in a hi-viz to give off about cycling and cyclists

There had been a bit of a buzz about tonight's race from the release of the groups onto the message board. It certainly got people talking. Come the actual race groups were switched about with an influx of riders into the scratch group (and perhaps heading straight back to group 4 after tonight's race!! ;-)). A great win by Gavin with Barry Van K on this tail. Two very strong riders! Well done to Ronnie S for taking third and to young rider Matthew A for 6th as well as our two youngest guys Aaron and Jack for putting in a strong performance.

Race Report from Group 3 Rider

Race day had arrived, prep went well, reasonable sleep, good nutrition + a decent warm up on the ride over. The big question on my mind was whether i could perform any better after a week's training in Majorca.
I managed to hang in with Group 3 until just before the finish line!? Problem was that was the end of Lap 2, out of a 6 lap race!?
Noel Gibson had us all (even Marty) working well together from quite early on, unfortunately we lost Lisa to a puncture on Lap 2. The stronger guys in the group were flexing their muscles on 'the drag' and surely it's only a matter of time before the top finishers are promoted to Group 4.
After my now customary dropping i pushed on for a lap on my own before being joined by Martina + the Grahams McC+Smyth. We worked together well until the end. (sorry i wasnt able to contribute much on the drag!)

Silver linings for me were that i managed to ride the race 6 minutes faster than my previous effort + due to other people misfortunes with punctures + dnf's i finished in 15th position out of 32 riders!

Congrats to Gavin on the win + Barry+Ronnie for making the podium

Great race ..... Thanks to the timekeepers and the marshals and Martin for keeping us safe .... Well organised by TJ Blyth............great ride by BVK and Big Ron......special mention to young Matt Armstrong with the ride off the night .......combativity award for that one!!!
