I think Peter Davison is doing it. The rest of us all have the 29er seat post wedged up our backside fear.
Good luck!

Ramblings of a first time racer. Well I survived it. (just about) My goal was to finish as it was my first race. Going into the weekend with a bit of confidence all was looking good. 2 spills on practice day made Sunday look doubtful but pushed on through the rest of the seconds to see what was to come. Sunday morning was painful losing an hour of sleep and a bad night on bruised ribs left me a bit anxious on Sunday morning. After the big climb to the start and the pain that came with it my goals where starting to look like finish stage 1. Well let's go. I get the nod at the start and off I go. First race first section I am going to have fun even if it kills me. First corner done first decent going ok. A bit nervous but survived. Wee drop big corner. Doing ok so far. Push through this muddy bit and the rest of the section is wee buns. I get the fire road and other riders on the push up are cheering you on. LET'S DO THIS. Into the next section pick a line and push. More cheering blood is pumping legs start to burn but more cheering. I am hooked. Finish stage! I have to finish all of this. Push harder finish the natural section an into the trail centre trail. Right it easy in till the drop at the end push push push. Cross the next fire road I need to turn left here soon. Flick round the tree stump into the last section pedal hit that corner hard. More cheering, there's the drop pick a line go for it. Up the other side pedal to the finish harder harder. Across the line! my wrist starts beeping I roll into the fire road. Savor the oxygen, the adrenaline, the burning legs. I made it. Get a drink and start the climb again. Only 5 more to go. I am not the fastest, fittest or most skillfull but at this moment I am possibly the happiest. I even went into this weekend content to see my name at the bottom of the leader boards, well at least above any DNF's but I wanted a time beside my name. Well how did I do. Truthfully not very well, 1 from the bottom of my class and not counting the dnf's 11 from the bottom overall (again not counting DNF's) but my name is up there with a time beside it. Next race goal improve. I had to start somewhere. Now when does that gym open again and hopefully next time I'm not going to wreck myself in practice. For the record I did finish every stage. Saturday's injurys caused some problems and knocked my confidence but I made it. Thank you for reading my ramblings on a first time racer.
