Check this for a writeup... Five of us out tonight – Kyle, Phil, Martin, Raymond and myself for a cracking night that was suggested to be 18 degrees according to the car thermostat. Martin Grimley had phoned earlier to say he couldn’t make it...something about SportsNI calling him and they needed a finely tuned athlete to examine...and he had to pay for the privilege, plus get himself up to UUJ with his bike. So the duties were left to me...............oh joy . We waited until 7 and then it was off in the direction of Belfast with Kyle and Phil leading us up front setting a quick pace. After the stop at Lady Dixon we took the new bypass at the bridge and then the tempo was pushed up again. We were strung out all over the path and getting up close to Kyle I told him to cool it and save the speed for the way home. Wise words I believe! It was up and over the “oooh I’m a show-off-who-can-turn-right bridge” and down the other side of the Tow Path where Kyle told me to lead off towards Giants Ring. Heading around the bend it was then evident we were missing people. Somehow – we still don’t know how! – Martin had gone to clip-in and Raymond had smashed into the back of him, bringing both of them down in a heap. No damage as such, all up and then over to Giants Ring were Martin lead us across and then down Nettle Lane – all in shorts here Grimley ! Sprinting down the road and then into Belvoir we met up with Kellett’s Splinter Group where they had stopped to mock Luke who was fixing a puncture....on a Cyclocross bike. Hardcore! On through the gate and to the cross-roads Kyle shouted to slow up as we were going too fast and we had lost people off the back. Raymond hit a bump and lost the front end...he wasn’t having a good night, but was soon up in the bunch again. Vomit Ridge, round the forest, up Alan’s Ascent, round the runner’s trail and onto the Tow Path for Stranmillis. Heading across the shortcut before Bladon Drive (Lagan Meadows) we lost Raymond again who had stopped to answer his phone. All up and it was time for the jaunt home. At the Lock Keepers Cottage we decided to take it off road and through the trail back to the car park. It was somewhere here we lost Raymond. Phil and I made it through unscathed but it took a random Samaritan to help Kyle and Martin out of the ruts. Here we waited for Raymond but there was no evidence of him. We headed to Shaws Bridge and then Kyle and I doubled back, sending Phil and Martin up Cardiac Hill while we went back for Raymond. No sign of him anywhere . Up Cardiac Hill for Kyle and I – meeting Phil and Martin at the top- through Bummer Lane, Mary Peters and through the jumps on the right. Like a group of synchronised swimmers – minus the funny hates, nose pegs and water – we all made it out of the gorge and met some people who had tailed off Kellett’s run. They told us they had seen Raymond about a mile up the road and so we set off to chase. The speed went up at the usual spots and the sprint was a tough one with Phil and Kyle fighting it out for the win. Kyle took it but I’d say there was a wheel in it with Martin and I coming in shortly behind. Two weeks in a row now for Kyle. Who will step up to the challenge.....and just push him in the river ? 25 miles DTD but a slower time of 2hrs 25. More good weather please! connect.garmin.com/activity/117968867

Wish our ride was half as eventful ;-) Good mileage knocked out there. We waited on poor old luke but his tube was from the 70's or something. Every time he patched it it went down again, we had to ditch him. Its a tough world this XC training. Did a lap of Lady Dixon, various trails in and around mary peters and the dub and over to malone house. connect.garmin.com/activity/117969523decent pace set once we got going after Lukes puncture

Ya see when it came to the trails, did he throw the bike on this back and run down after you or did he ride them on that bike?

Sounds like a super night. I had two goes round Kirroughtree. Black and Red then just the Red. Utterly knackered by the end but unscathed. The other chaps picked up a few nasty cuts and bruises but ... we're alive !! Back to the towpath next week hopefully

Ya see when it came to the trails, did he throw the bike on this back and run down after you or did he ride them on that bike? We only met him at the entrance to belvoir forest there and he had the puncture so he got to ride nothing with us. I don't think he'd be carrying a bike about though? most of the trails around that area are dead on my rigid bike so i can only assume his yoke is a flying machine on them.

Nice report Adrian. Shame you couldn't keep that Kyle one under control. Good to hear Raymund back out again. Hope Ray you will join us out again. No it was a bike fit session. Adjusting the bike to the rider stuff. I was having pain behind my left knee. Turns out it is nerve based. Got bike set up for more efficiency. Seat lowered and more forward, handlebars dropped, cleats adjusted. All feels good. Will need to see how I feel racing on Sunday on the bike and then the tow path next week.

No it was a bike fit session. Lol I was taking the piss - remember last week when i attempted to adjust my saddle and you wouldn't wait? 60 seconds, job done . Hopefully that works out for ya. I had wild trouble with my hamstrings about 2 years ago and cycling made it hella worse. Turns out I was over-stretching based on my foot position. Still its nice to be told and have it put to bed. No Tow Path for me next week - I'm off to London for my birthday woohoo.
