While we don't go off-road per-se I don't think a road bike would be suitable as you'd ding your wheels on the gravel climbs.

6 out tonight, Adrian, Kyle, Colin, Martin McA, Phil G and me. Beautiful evening, mild, no wind. Kicked off at exactly 7pm for a quick run down the path with Kyle back for the first time and not wanting to hang around. Lots of walkers, some with and some without dogs and even a walking group of the older generation who filled the path. They were looking for us to 'ring our bells'. Over the footbridge, Martin stopped to let a little air out of his tyres. Phil G lead us round the path towards the ring. At the ring we lined up as if it was a mini Epic Blast. I did the countdown which was a bit unfair as I then jumped ahead and lead them across the ring. Much panting at the other side. All recovered and then on towards nettle lane. Colin, Martin, Adrian never learned from last week and were still in shorts. Kyle donned the shorts as well. Slippery and overgrown. Martin ended up with a puncture. All stop to get it fixed. Two thorns. Guy in the house out to see what we were at. Pushed on again down the road. I was keeping it steady until Adrian shot past. I left it a minute before thinking, right, I'll have you. I shot off with Phil on my right. Just before the turn into Minnowburn Kyle came around the three of us and nipped in first with me second and Phil third. Quick run up through Shaws and down into the trees. Adrian leading us up the climbs and around the usual loops. Back out to the tow path to see a train of 5 other riders go past. Adrian shot off after them to sit on their wheel. The rest of us were well spread out behind. All regrouped before turning at Stranmillis and heading back though the Meadows. Nice run through here. Phil had 'light' trouble and was last out. Colin and I then lead the troup down the path towards Shaw's. Phil's brake keep rubbing so we stopped at Shaw's to re-seat it. A local bike geek joined us to provide advice on parts. This guy had an impressive knowledge of bikes and bits for bikes. We left in a hurry and headed up cardiac hill. Kyle up first with Colin hot on his heels and I was trying to catch up from last to third. Little rest, pushed on through the trees and out to the running track. ALMOST all of us went down through the BMX jumps. Adrian skipped this part (some weird nonsense excuse which I'm sure he'll be on sharing !!!) Only downhiller Phil and I managed to get out of the dip at the end. Colin and I started leading the group back towards Lisburn. After the steel bridge I called for a reshuffle and wanted Phil and Martin on the front. The pace was still too high for Phil and his annoying front brake so we stopped and regrouped again putting Phil and Kyle on the front. This worked until close to the end when Adrian, jumping early, set off at high speed towards the civic centre. Kyle and Colin gave chase. Phil, Martin and I continued at the pace we were going. When we arrived back it seemed that Kyle took the win with Adrian not far behind and Colin third. Back for 9:30. Still a mild night. Great fun had.
