So Davy's "bit of hilly" training turned out to be a tour of a large part of the Mourne Sportive! Taking in the Boiling Well, Rathfriland, Carrick Road, Coyles hill and Spelga, with over 5,000 ft of climbing and 60 miles, this was one to really test the "leisure" group. For most of the day the weather was superb, with only a few light clouds interrupting the glorious summer sunshine. We managed to time our lunch stop (superb food and coffee at Niki's in Newcastle) to coincide with the only heavy downpour of the day, so all worked out well. We had 8 riders out: Davy R, Jim McM, Linda F, Eddie D, Beverley P, Joanne A, Michael McG and me. Big respect to Linda, Beverley and Joanne for all pushing themselves to the limit (and then a wee bit past it) to get to the top of some of the toughest climbs in Co. Down. Thanks to Davy for organising the route. Another very enjoyable club run. IMG_2493 by GrahamB76, on Flickr More Pics hereStrava log here

'Enjoyable' is maybe not the word for this run. Hope we didn't put Joanne off.. this was not the usual Lazy Sunday run. Well done the girls. You will have no probs doing the Hilly after that.

I definitely wasn’t expecting that yesterday but feel great for having done it Davy (even though my legs are telling me differently now). Thanks to Graham for the words of encouragement up Spelga and thanks to Eddie for the wee push here and there!
Needless to say I’ll be having 2 or 3 bowls of coco pops for breakfast if anyone ever mentions going for a ‘hilly’ run!
