So No Giro for me, off to Dublin for a saturday race, what the hell?!
Course was very different to last years, super technical climbs and descents, wet roots and rocks caked in mud everywhere you looked. Rode well in practise so was feeling good.
Alas, the race was a complete disaster compared to round 1 two weeks ago.
Managed to get 2nd into the trails just behind Robin Seymour before stalling and holding up an angry mob behind. Got back on and motored back up the hill, under pressure and onto the first descent and I totally lost it and knocked down an innocent photographer standing off to the side!!! Everyone survived but I was going backwards
Got my act together and clawed up to 4th place at the start of lap 2, with Robin long gone, Graham Boyd of XMTB and Killarney CC's Sean Prendiville were about 30seconds ahead so I was hoping to Battle for a podium spot. Unfortunately I continued to ride like a complete idiot. Down to 6th and struggling badly. Reaching down to lock the fork out for the big climb on lap 3 i discovered it already locked. Riding a full lap with locked out forks is definitely not recommended. Forgetting again at the top of the climb the 3rd time was unforgivable!
Finally got going at a decent pace for 10 minutes before my chain snapped when about to attack the hill on lap 4. Race Over. Very disappointed.
At least I was close to the car to stand out in the nip on the side of a dublin mountain with crazy gales and torrential rain making the job of changing clothes an absolute joy.
Wouldn't have happened on a sunday.
Should have just watched the Giro.
Well done to Ben Wilson on a great 2nd place in the U12's
Also well done to Brian Wilson and Robert Davison in S3.
And massive thanks to Mrs Davison for doing my bottles!
