Brilliant night on the trails and new loop for this seasons league. Superb work from the guys who have been involved in creating that. New test rider for fresh trails discovered as well: Untitled by barry_kellett99, on Flickr

Thank God Aoife was only test riding. If she had raced it would have been another rider beating me !

Round 6 was held tonight the winner( 2 in a row) was John McGuigan. Yes it is the same John McGuigan that says he can't stay on a bike and doesn't train much!
The course was in good condition with the usual technical challenges. First away were Gibson,Gavin,Alistair and Peter doing 4 laps. A minute later Brian and Robert set off to complete 4 laps. John started 3.30 mins further back with 4 laps to complete. John McGuigan was next away 30 secs after John with 3 laps to complete. Ben was last away 23 mins after John but with 2 laps to complete. The chase was on. First over the line would be the winner. The first group led out by Gibson started to splinter after a lap with Gibson and Gavin opening up a gap on the others. Robert on his first outing on this course was riding well through the technical sections and was closing the gap on group 1. John who was on his own was riding strongly on the fire road climbs and steadily closing the gap. John McGuigan was telling anyone who was foolish enough to listen how poorly he was going. Ben was chasing him down but the gap looked too big. John McGuigan made the finish line first with Ben a minute behind and John Shanks making it up to 3rd.
Well done to John McGuigan. An emergency meeting of the handicap committee has been called!

An emergency meeting of the handicap committee has been called! You need to get an account on Strava. 90% of his training hours are spent doing laps of the club course and the other 10% are spent bluffing. Hence he is getting a bit too good at both.

Firstly, I have to say I don't like the insinuations, I am always open and honest, and have never ever bluffed in my life.
Secondly, if blame is to be apportioned for sketchy handicaps, then I 100% blame the handicapper ( there you go, i am being open and honest again )
Thirdly, just to correct some facts stated, I only spend 30% of my available training time on the xc course, 30% training on the road, and 40% of available training time is actually spent thinking about training while lounging on the sofa eating pringles and wagon wheels.
As for not being able to stay on my bike, unfortunately that is still the case despite some dedicated practice. Luckily tonight my phase of hitting everything that doesn't move out of the way only lasted for the warm up and the first lap. Maybe I am getting a wee bit better as laps 2 and 3 were reasonably incident free.
And finally, a word to all for the next race ( the one after the emergency handicap meeting ), give a good loud gulder long before you want to pass me so I can get safely out of the way.

Round 7 - 26th June
A few regulars missing tonight including League leader Ben Wilson, but there was a few new comers in DK for the 1st time, and with the course just a little damp it was going to make for a challenging race. After the handicaps were sorted the riders set off, some doing 2 laps, while others did 3 and 4 laps. First home was Peter Davidson taking the win, followed closely by David Broome with Wanita Broome taking 3rd. I had a good battle with Richard Cowan, eventually getting past him when he missed a turn ( need to get to DK more often Richard ) to take 4th with Richard finishing 5th. There was a fast sprint for 6th, with Gibson Chambers just pipping John Shanks and Robert Davidson coming in just behind in 8th. As usual there was good craic afterwards, no tea or coffee though, but plenty of midges :-)

Round 8 - 11th July
Due to holidays a few regulars were missing tonight, but those that attended expected a fast race as the course was reasonably dry. Guests included Kathryn Aiken and Irish champion Roger Aiken.
The handicaps were quickly sorted and riders set off at time gaps with between 3 and 5 laps to complete. Each rider appeared to be holding their positions until the last lap and as the time gaps shortened some of the faster riders started to catch and pass those in front. There were now only a few minutes between all the riders so it was hard racing until the end.
Unsurprisingly Roger took the win, Mr Van Kellett rode well to keep within sight until near the finish to claim 2nd. David Broome continues to ride strong and took 3rd. Gibson Chambers was closing me down fast, but just ran out of trail and I managed to hold on to 4th , Gibson taking 5th and Kathryn claiming 6th. Alister Brown took 7th, a victim of a handicappers error ( I so sorry...lol )
Next race is at the same venue on 8th August.
