2 cry offs from the original 5 that were meant to go out which left Graham B, Michael McG and me. There had been heavy rain throughout the day but at 7 pm it was dry overhead. Cold but hardly a breeze. We set off just after 7 with Graham and me on the front and Michael tucked in behind. Crossed over the footbridge, had a good fast spin around this section to Minnowburn and then headed up to the Ring. We stood at the edge of that ancient site and took in our surroundings. Just a few clouds overhead, a full moon shining, still no wind and the sound of church bells ringing out. A wonderful evening.
We set off across the Ring and met another group out. They had a bike with a broken chain. Exchanged a few words and then headed on. One of them mentioned hearing a hissing sound from my back tyre. It didn't seem to be going down so we went on. Down to Minnowburn again via Ronan's way and then towards Shaw's and on down to the trees. Nice run through here. Graham got to the top of the climbs first, powering away. Around the loop then and back to the car park. Meet another group of riders out. Back down Vomit Hill and out to the path again. It was nice to get out of the trees without having to stop to fix a puncture. I checked my back tyre. It was a bit soft but ok to continue on. We went to Shaw's and then up Cardiac Hill. Lots of shadow people out. Took to the trails. It was great to do these on a mountain bike again. The cross bike was fun but I was always too slow. Up at the trail head car park we stopped so that I could put more air in the back tyre. We then went through Lady Dixon Park, (I pointed out Carnage Corner), and out the back of the park onto the tow path. A nice strong paced run back to Lisburn. No sprint this week.
Back for 9:15. A great evening out. For the nature lovers, our tally of fauna included 2 rabbits, 2 rats, 2 swans and a fox.
Roll on next Thursday.
