Our annual Dromara CC "Hilly" Leisure tour on Sunday 9th August will shortly be opening for entries. This year we would like to make the event bigger and better than ever before, but to do this we can't just rely on a few people doing most of the work on the day.
As many of you will no-doubt appreciate from having done other events, the best sportives and leisure rides are the ones with lots of helpers making sure the participants are looked after throughout the day. This is why we are asking this year for as many club members as possible to give up their time and help during the event, rather than riding it. It is hoped that by doing this more club members will feel that they have in some way contributed to making it a success, whilst also giving more people the chance to have a say in how the event is run.
To compensate those club members who volunteer not to ride the event on the day, we are proposing to hold a "dry run" a week before the actual event, when all club members will be invited to for a club ride around the 85 or 125 routes in a Super Sunday format (i.e. starting as one big group then splitting into a faster group and a slower group to take on the two respective routes). Afterward there will be food and drinks back in Dromara.
More details to follow soon, but if you are happy to get involved and help out on the 9th, please post your name below!

I am on to support the event and do the Super Sunday. Worth mentioning that the Hilly enables other cyclists to enjoy the pleasure and pain of our backyard, it is one of the well establsihed and much loved events in the calendar, lets make it a big year.

Round 5 of the XC NPS is on in Castlewellan the week before the Hilly so that will rule all the mountain bikers out of the dry run. :-(

Folks, we need more helpers for the Hilly! I counted 23 DCC members at the Shimna Sportive on Sunday, yet I have only 12 volunteers so far to run our own event! Lets pull together to make it a success!

Folks, please see attached chart I have put together to try to work out when and where we need people on the day. Please let me know if you have any preference as to what jobs you would prefer to do and I will try to accommodate where possible. As you can imagine the times when we need most people are at the start and finish, however the times and numbers of people may not be exactly as per this chart. At present I have the following volunteers on my list. If you have offered to help out and your name isn't on the list, please let me know. Graham Beckett Bernie Monaghan Linda Ford Alan Corry Lisa Millar Nathan Mullan Peter Bryson Stephen Wallace Cathy Wallace Ruth Beckett Davy Robb Emma Johnston Jim McMaster Eddie Doyle Paul Gick Graham McConnell Neil Armstrong Chris Magowan Beverley Pierson Any other helpers? We will also need lots of volunteers in the week before the event to mark the roads (Paul Gick will be co-ordinating this), and possibly also to help transport equipment and food on the Friday and Saturday. Thanks. Hilly 2015 - task planner.pdf (19.21 KB)

Folks,
latest list of volunteers as below. That gives us 20 people to run the event on the day, which is great - many thanks to you all for offering to help. If you could have a look at the event planner attached above and let me know what jobs you would like to do, that would be useful. We also need volunteers to mark the roads next Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday (depending on the weather), so if you can help with this please post below.
Any other club members who aren't helping out on the day, please go ahead an pre-enter and ride the event if you can. A couple of people have asked me if club members are allowed to enter - of course you are! The call for volunteers has been really successful, and we have got more than enough now, so the best thing for everyone else to do is to get involved by taking part and getting some DCC shirts on the road!
We'll still be holding the "dry run" ride of the event this coming Sunday (separate post to follow) but that will probably only be the 85km route.
Volunteer list:
Bernie Monaghan Linda Ford Alan Corry Lisa Millar Nathan Mullan Peter Bryson Stephen Wallace Cathy Wallace Ruth Beckett Davy Robb Emma Johnston Jim McMaster Eddie Doyle Paul Gick Graham McConnell Neil Armstrong Chris Magowan Beverley Pierson Neill Currie Graham Beckett
