A lovely evening at the Harry Ferguson race track for the newly set up "Kelly Race". This was a "fun" event with the scratch riders doing marshal duties. Lots of new faces trying road racing for the first time. Five laps, 3 groups on the road, got underway around 7pm A nice touch to put tape across the newly tarmaced road rather than use spray. Many thanks to the many volunteers. Timekeepers - Barry Van K, Lisa M, Paul G Timekeepers' assistants - Gibson family, Olivia M, Trevor B Lead car - Deek H Corner marshals - Chris M, Gary G, Marcus M, Gareth W, Ronnie S, Beverley P, Emma J, Jim McM, Neil A, Davy F, Eddie D, Linda F (+ 2 more scrawls I can't read) Photographs - Graham B, Gavin M Did I leave anyone out? Well done to Graham Smyth who wins the nice framed DCC shirt with Sean Kelly signature. Results from timekeepers below. We await the final minor places from the video camera.

Race Report of a First Time Group 3 Rider The day had started well for me, i had nearly 5 hours sleep, found all my cycling gear, got bottles filled + gel set out all before heading off to work as i knew there would be a short turnaround time from ariving home + riding out to the race. Everything had went to plan all day + had managed to eat all the right foods (i think), even had time to ride out, sign on, + fit in a warm up lap before the race, happy days! Had a bit of chit chat with Robert + Martina about our upgrades from last season's Group 2 on how we would fare + what it would be like to race without Lisa (on timekeeping duty) shouting at us to 'Go hard or go home!') As Group 3 lined up we talked about how we would ride in two's, roll it round, + work as a team etc. Of course Marty (being Marty) had blew this idea apart in the first 600 yards of the race! With varying levels of ability in our group it took us a while to start working as a cohesive unit, but by the time we had reached Drumlough Hill we were working well + i had managed to make my way to the front. My cunning plan was to be at or near the front each time we reached Drumlough + Raffertys Hills, this would give me a bit of scope for looseing time as the hills are my achilles heel! This sort of worked for me until halfway up Drumlough on the 3rd lap when i blew up, the red light had been on for a while tbh. Fair play to Bryce he eased up (to his own detriment) + tried to drag me back up to the group but i couldnt do it, i was busted! Thanks + Sorry Bryce. Sat up, finshed that lap + cruised round Lap 4 of a 7 lap race (or so i thought) trying to recover + get my second wind. I was determined to finish as my wife + 3 year old daughter had came to cheer me on at Drumlough Row. It was with great relief i heard the bell at the end of the 4th lap. Myself + Robert McDonald had came together around halfway through the last lap + he led us up Drumlough Hill. Coming out of the last corner i took to the front to chase down the lone figure i seen in the distance. Just managed to catch him 10 metres before the line, then Robert went round me! Lol, schoolboy error on my part. Of the upgradees (is that a word?) Robert was 19th, i was 20th + Martina was a couple of minute behind us. Well done to Graham on the win, + Big Marty on 2nd, special mention for Stephen Irvine on a well deserved podium on his first ever club race, he put a lot of time in driving our group on from the front! I was dissapointed last nite but on reflection today am a bit happier, i done my best + have no excuses whatsoever, just need to train harder + more often! Now to dream of Majorca + hopefully ride into some form out there, then roll on Flatfield until i give it another lash! Nearly forgot to add thanks to Gavin + Chris for setting the race up + Martin, the timekeepers, marshals + all the other helpers who made the night possible. A great night all round.
